Jazz enthusiasts from around the region were given a shot in the arm last night with the opening performance of the 51 Mid-South Jazz Festival on the campus of Austin Peay State University. The APSU Jazz Combo gave guests a 90-minute set of rhythmic music flavored with Latin jazz, bossa nova, R&B, and even rock & roll overtones.
The small group of musicians showed a great command of their instruments and an ease of interaction that graced the tunes with a smooth flow and inspiring spirit. The five-piece ensemble enthralled the audience with the skilled play as sound filled the concert hall and tantalized listeners.
The Mid-South Jazz Festival continues with another free performance tonight, 7:30 P.M., at the Concert Hall of the Music and Mass Communications Bldg on the APSU campus at the corner of Eighth and Marion Streets.
Free parking in the parking across the street from the hall.
